Editing Rates

I do very little freelance editing work anymore. But, for those odd times when it makes sense, I will maintain this page of rates for reference.

Rock Star

Basic copy editing, proofreading, plus any necessary improvements to diction, sentence structure, flow, and clarity. This level is for well-written texts that require minor to moderate corrections and editing.

The fee for up to 2,000 words is $50, which is my minimum fee.
2,000 – 3,999 words: $75 flat rate.
4,000 – 5,999 words: $100 flat rate.
6,000 – 9,999 words is $22 per 1,000 words.
10,000 – 14,999 words is $20 per 1,000 words.
15,000 – 19,999 words is $19 per 1,000 words.
20,000 – 24,999 words is $17 per 1,000 words.
25,000 – 59,999 words is $16 per 1,000 words.

Any project greater than 60,000 words is $15 per 1,000 words.

Super Star

Line editing and copy editing, plus more in-depth improvements to language usage, organization, phrasing, and scholarly tone (in the case of academic texts), as well as a review of style formatting. This service also includes constructive feedback regarding your text’s content. For short fiction, this feedback includes a response to any inconsistencies in plot or character development and other observations or questions from an educated reader. For non-fiction and academic works, this feedback will identify any unsupported or underdeveloped points or arguments.

10,000 – 14,999 words is $21 per 1,000 words.

20,000 – 24,999 words is $18 per 1,000 words.
25,000 – 59,999 words is $17 per 1,000 words.

Editing of materials not quantifiable by word count (presentation slides, marketing copy, etc.) will be billed at $75 an hour.
